Job Summary:

Reporting to the Company Manager, the General Stage Manager will be required to:

  • Manage the daily operations of the stage management team which includes hiring and training of the staff, conducting performance reviews, conflict resolution and any disciplinary measures.
  • Manage the daily performances and rehearsals and ensure that the schedules are coordinated so that minimal time is wasted.
    • Manage rehearsals which includes the calling of cues and having an understanding of all lift, winch, and effect cues and the ability to execute them in show-like conditions.
    • Call the show each night and as the show progresses, begin to train the Stage Managers to call the show one night per week on a rotation.
  • Work in close cooperation with other members of the emergency team, in the case of injury or a medical emergency.
  • Work with the stage management team, Executive Director of Technical Operations, technical head of departments and the Resident Director to formulate, rehearse and maintain safety plans and procedures for the stage.
  • Assist with finding a solution and oversee the implementation of the plan in the event that a problem occurs onstage during a performance or rehearsal and communicate the problem to appropriate parties.
  • Keep up to date records for the Stage Management Office.
    • Create and maintain the show reports for each performance based on performance and technical aspects of each show.
    • Maintain and update accurate calling scripts for the show.
  • Train the Stage Managers on how to call each performance consistently and develop efficient and safe protocols for dealing with each problem as they arise.
  • Attend management meetings as required which includes the weekly Performance Meeting, Head of Department Meeting and Scheduling Meetings.
    • With Resident Director, Company Manager and Technical managers, coordinate the weekly schedule for rehearsals, costume fittings and any other special events. The weekly schedule is used to create the daily schedule.
    • Create the daily schedule and distribute daily to appropriate parties.
    • Attend the weekly head of department meeting to discuss general operations, budgeting, upcoming events, and any miscellaneous items.
    • Attend the weekly Performance meeting where the health and wellbeing of the cast is discussed each week to know who is in and out of the show and the estimated length of time.
  • Manage a clear and efficient communication process between Artistic, the Technical Departments and Performers.
  • Supervise the video recording and archiving of each performance with the Resident Director.
  • Create, maintain and post performer daily sign-in sheets and assist the Company Manager with monitoring attendance and rehearsals and meetings.
  • Notify Company Manager of any performer disciplinary issues that need to be addressed.
  • Work with the Resident Director to ensure that there is coverage for each show when performers are unable to perform.
  • Rehearse covers for all roles in the show in coordination with the Resident Director and Captains.
  • Develop efficient and safe protocols that may arise during a show and ways to deal with these problems safely and efficiently.
  • Work with the Company Manager, Resident Director and Wynn PR and Marketing teams on all PR and Marketing initiatives and oversee all stage management duties.
  • Provide assistance to the performers and support the performers by assisting and guiding their interaction with all Stage Management needs.
  • Support the Company Manager in creating an atmosphere that promotes teamwork, maximizes productivity and minimizes costs.
  • Create a positive atmosphere for all show personnel.
  • Maintain and enforce all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Job Experience / Education:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent work-related experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ management experience working as a Stage Manager for a large-scale theatrical or production show with automated systems or similar position.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Production Stage Manager or General Stage Manager.
  • Must have experience working with a variety of cast members.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of automations and rigging which apply to cueing and creating a safe work environment for performers and crew. Must also have knowledge of lighting, audio and carpentry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 Must have the ability to read music.

  • Must be able to manage staff, discipline performers and perform under pressure.
  • Must have the ability to direct and motivate the performers.
  • Must be highly organized and able to function in a stressful environment.
  • Must be able to manage, prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to perform under pressure and manage conflicts.
  • Must be willing to define, practice and conform to safe working procedures.
  • Must possess excellent problem-solving skills, strong organization skills and strong interpersonal skills with proven talents in leadership and teamwork.
  • Must be able to break down barriers between backstage and onstage personnel.
  • Must be a team builder and be able to create strong teams.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have excellent phone etiquette.
  • Must have strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
  • Must be able to adapt to unexpected situations.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule (evenings, weekends, holidays and long hours).
  • Ability to work around strobe lighting and smoke effects.
  • Ability, experience, and comfort in working at high elevations in a theatrical environment.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of industry through continuing education and training.
  • Must have the ability to work with individuals from different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of OSHA health and safety protocols is required.
  • Must have current OSHA 30 General Industry Safety Card.
