Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Costume Construction & Wardrobe, the Wig and Hair Technician will be required to: 

  • Prepare hair and wigs styled in accordance with the integrity of the approved designs.
  • Restyle, maintain and make alterations or adjustment to wigs as required.
  • Work closely and train the performers in the application of their wigs while preserving the integrity of each look.
  • Repair, construct, clean and prep wigs for each show.
  • Maintain documentation for the maintenance of all wigs and headpieces.
  • Ensure that replacement wigs are ordered when new performers are added in the show.
  • Create, update and maintain the wig and hair bible for each look.
  • Proper clean up, repack, & storage of all hair and wig related items at the end of each show.
  • Provide wig and hair support for all PR and Marketing and special events.
  • Adhere to all company and departmental safety policies with emphasis on maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Adhere to all OSHA regulations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Job Experience / Education:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working as a wig and hair technician or a similar position in a wardrobe department for a large-scale theatrical or production show.
  • Experience with teaching performers how to apply their wigs.
  • Experience with cutting, dyeing, setting, blocking and styling real hair wigs.
  • Experience with fitting, altering and repairing full lace cap or lace front wigs.

  • Must be highly organized and able to function in a stressful environment.
  • Must be able to produce high quality work in a limited time frame.
  • Must possess strong problem solving and time management skills.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and adapt to changes quickly.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with others and develop positive interpersonal relationships with coworkers.
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule (evenings, weekends and holidays).
  • Must have the ability to work with individuals from different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of OSHA health and safety protocols is required.
  • Must have a current OSHA 10 General Industry Safety Card.
