Job Description

The QA Engineer role plays an important part in SDLC development process. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assist in configuration of applications and integration interfaces in test environments to point to correct URLs/servers/ports to ensure connectivity between applications is intact. Work closely with Development and Software Architecture team members to understand the system flows, processes and back end architecture. Another core responsibility will be to coordinate downtimes in QA test environments to the affected groups and troubleshoot issues in test environments. The QA Engineer will apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help validate IT processes through careful testing in order to maximize the benefit of business investments in IT initiatives. Report progress to test manager.



Responsibilities

  • Good understanding of basic technical concepts associated with hardware, software, applications, multi-tier architecture, etc.
  • Review test environment change requests and implementation plans to minimize chances of negative impact to QA environments and projects in testing.
  • Identify missing steps on implementation plans and recommend changes to be made to have an accurate implementation plan before deploying into QA environments.
  • Approve/reject change requests in test environments by anticipating their impact to projects in testing.
  • Ensure security policies and change control processes outlined for QA test environments are strictly adhered to.
  • Troubleshoot test environment issues related to various applications, servers, services, etc. to resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Reboot servers and restart services to get applications to a running state in test environments.
  • Delete log files or compress files and folders on servers running out of disk space in test environments as a workaround and notify Systems Engineering to add more disk space as a solution.
  • Use VMware tools to power on/off virtual machines (VMs).
  • Assist in configuration of applications and integration interfaces in test environments to point to correct URLs/servers/ports to ensure connectivity between applications is intact.
  • Analyze business requirements documents and functional/technical specifications documents.
  • Work closely with Development and Software Architecture team members to understand the system flows, processes and back end architecture.
  • Create, review and update test cases as well as test scripts to keep up with changes in requirements and technical specifications.
  • Expertise in Quality Center to document test cases, test runs, test results, and generating test progress summary reports.
  • Execute sanity, smoke, functional, regression, stress/performance (load) testing based on project and application needs.
  • Test any new software to ensure integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and technical specifications.
  • Analyze formal test results in order to discover and report any defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws.
  • Re-test releases containing product defect fixes to validate they function as per expectations.
  • Cultivate and disseminate knowledge of quality assurance best practices.
  • Design and implement change control processes to track changes being made to QA environments using Microsoft SharePoint.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in software engineering, computer science, or business administration or equivalent work experience.
  • Good understanding of basic technical concepts associated with hardware, software, applications, multi-tier architecture, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of VMware tools. To power on/off virtual machines (VMs).
  • Proficient in Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Strong Experience in setting up the test environment.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a QA tester for major application integration and/or major application product release.
  • Strong knowledge of system testing best practices and methodologies.
  • Extensive experience with core software applications, including Microsoft web and client/server applications.
  • Experience with writing basic or advanced SQL queries used to retrieve information stored in SQL Database.
  • Detail-oriented data analysis, data verification, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with statistical reporting and analysis.
  • Strong at using QA testing tools like QC, Jira and SOAP UI.
  • Good understanding of various Software Development Life Cycle methodologies.
  • Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to obtain a Nevada Gaming Card.

Desired Skills

  • Exposure to .Net technologies, web services, stored procedures, and middle tier applications.
  • Strong understanding of technical concepts related to hardware, software, physical machines, virtual machines, multi-tier architecture.
  • Expertise in applications like Micros Opera, Micros Simphony, IGT Gaming Systems (CTA, CCTG, Table Touch Main Floor, Patron Management), NeWave Title 31, Newmarket Delphi, Slots Gaming and Epicor Retail Software Suite.
  • Experienced in testing websites in different Operating Systems and Browsers as well as testing mobile websites.
  • Testing and Other Tools: Quality Center, Load Runner, Soup UI, QTP, Microsoft TFS, Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Environment: Microsoft Windows Servers 2003/2008/2008 R2, Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008/2008 R2, vSphere 5.5.


Work Conditions

  • Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
  • Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
  • Some travel may be required for the purpose of off-site software and system applications testing.
