Job Description

The Digital Designer is responsible for collaborating with the Senior Designer and Design Director in the creation of a project’s digital/visualization design models and to produce render design concepts. Renderings may range from conceptual to photo-realistic and may include custom models for furnishings and fixtures. The Digital Designer will work simultaneously on a variety of projects with multiple teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Collaborate with the Digital Design Team in the build-up of projects models and scenes from conceptual design through design development for all project assignments.
  • Research creative resources, ideas, software, and new working techniques to continuously develop and improve upon the studio’s 3D rendering and modeling capabilities.
  • Proactively assist with the preparation of the conceptual and milestone design presentations of all FFE, color selections, and finish/material specifications for both internal and external review and approval, as appropriate.
  • Manage the studio’s library of 3D models and renderings and other resource databanks.
  • Support with the management of project files and binders as appropriate.
  • Utilize 3D Studio Max, Vray, and Photoshop to create furniture models and photo-realistic visualizations.
  • Collaborate with the Design Director to confirm and coordinate all client requirements relative to FFE and finishes for the development of 3D models and renderings.
  • Support the design teams in research and development from conceptual design through construction administration for all project assignments.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Bachelors/Professional Degree in Art or other closely related field.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of digital design experience with leading design organizations.

Preferred:

  • 1-3 years of digital design experience with major hospitality and/or entertainment-related design projects.
  • Four and/or Five Star resort hospitality and residential experience.
  • 1-3 years of 3D Studio Max experience

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have:

  • Strong modeling skills: experience reading and working off architectural plans; reading and working with CAD drawing files; experience using polygonal modeling to accurately depict models.
  • Basic familiarity with 3D Studio Max 2018. (experience with the 2020 version preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Exchange, and Windows.
  • Strong texturing skills: ability to map geometry; manipulate UVs; adjust textures using Photoshop; create high quality/high resolution tile-able texture.
  • Rendering skills: experience rendering high-quality images at an optimal quality-to-time ratio.
  • Ability to work in a creative, collaborative, entrepreneurial, and fast paced team environment.
  • Ability to approach all tasks with proactive thinking and a comprehensive plan of action.
  • Must be self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Must have an excellent personal presentation and possess the necessary skills and attributes to represent the qualitative character of WDD in all forms of communication and representation.
  • Must be confident in ability to communicate and collaborate with clients and project peers both internally and externally.
  • Must be design sensitive, having the ability to acquire finely tuned aesthetic.
  • Must be able to communicate visually through drawing ability and/or illustration.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple and complex instructions. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Essential duties for this position include but not limited to the following: able to work within a variety of climates.  Safely lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds on occasions as well as sit for up to 90% of the workday. Repetitive bending, kneeling, stooping, pushing and pulling will potentially be required throughout shift.  Exposed to potentially hazardous conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  When on a project site, the noise level increases to loud.  When on a project site, employees are required to comply with all contractor-imposed safety procedures.

Due to the unpredictable nature of the design industry, Employees must be able to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the studio.
