The Lighting Designer is required to be educated in a variety of standard lighting design concepts and practices.  The Lighting Designer will be familiar with current lamp technologies and lighting fixture capabilities. Time management, creativity and sound judgment are critical to this position in order to plan and accomplish project goals and meet project deadlines.

Contribute to a safe work environment, through compliance with established safety guidelines, identifying potential safety hazards, and reporting same to the appropriate person for proper resolution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Coordinating with the Director, Lighting Design and Vice President, Design as assigned in the development of lighting designs for various WDD projects.
  • Create and produce documentation of concept designs.
  • Create and produce the graphic development and organization of presentation materials.
  • Create and produce the preparation of lighting plans and details for schematic, preliminary and construction drawings as assigned.
  • Produce fixture specifications per approved standards.
  • Assist Lighting Design Manager in preparing project budgets.
  • Reviewing new products and attend manufacturer’s presentations as required.
  • Prepare project punch lists.
  • Prepare field visit reports.
  • Assist with construction administration and observation.
  • *Direct light fixture focus.
  • *Direct the setting of lighting levels and lighting scenes.

      *These activities typically occur outside of normal working hours.

  • Assist with the maintenance of lighting designs for Wynn properties.
  • Interface with the Engineering teams for the Wynn/Encore properties.
  • Job related travel within and outside the United States may be required.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working for a professional lighting design firm, preferably in Casino and Hospitality Design Industry.
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts in Lighting Design or a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design with experience in Interior Lighting Design required.  Acceptance based on portfolio review, interview and prior job history.

Preferred:

  • Four and/or Five Star resort hospitality and residential experience.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the WDD Team as well as within the Company.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality; handling sensitive information concerning both the Company and its projects.
  • Exceptional multi-tasking and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2009 or later required.
  • Comprehensive understanding and practical application of lighting design concepts, theory and standard practice.
  • Working knowledge of interior design and an ability to review and correctly interpret interior design documents.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, comprehend, and compose complex instructions, correspondence, and memorandum.  Ability to author correspondence as per the aforementioned.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to wide-tanging audience types.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide with accuracy necessary to understand and coordinate complex technical documents and specifications as part of the design, documentation, and construction process.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple and complex instructions. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Essential duties for this position include but not limited to the following: able to work within a variety of climates.  Safely lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds on occasions as well as sit for up to 90% of the workday. Repetitive bending, kneeling, stooping, pushing and pulling will potentially be required throughout shift.  Exposed to potentially hazardous conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  When on a project site, the noise level increases to loud.  When on a project site, employees are required to comply with all contractor-imposed safety procedures.

Due to the unpredictable nature of the design industry, Employees must be able to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the studio.

As a salaried exempt team member of Wynn Design & Development, freelance consulting services, works-for-hire, or any outside services performed for compensation are dilutive to the responsibilities defined herein and are not permitted.  Product design and licensing agreements are permitted but efforts required to support such business arrangements must not be performed during business hours and product may not be specified or sold to Wynn Resorts or its affiliates.
